How it works
One player opens Take a Joke on the TV — the Mac or Windows app, or a browser at takeajoke.apprevolt.tv. A QR code appears for everyone else to scan.
Scan the QR or enter the 5-character room code. No app download, no account — just your name and you're in.
The TV shows a prompt. Players choose their wittiest card from their hand and submit on their phone.
Cards are revealed one by one on the big screen. The judge picks their favorite — or everyone votes. Points are tallied until a champion is crowned.
Pick your mode
How do you answer?
Each player gets a hand of 12 random cards to choose from. Quick to learn, no typing required — just pick the funniest one.
Best for: first-timers and younger players
Players type their own made-up answers. More creative, more personal — the jokes come from your group's imagination.
Best for: creative players and improv fans
How is the winner picked?
One player picks their favorite answer each round. The judge rotates every round so everyone gets a turn — including the kids.
Best for: fast rounds and big reveal moments
Everyone votes for their favorite. If there's a tie, a rotating tiebreaker reader makes the final call — so it's always fair.
Best for: larger groups and democratic chaos
What you get
Everyone plays from their own phone. No controllers, no downloads, no hassle.
The game lives on a shared screen. Prompts, reveals, and scoreboard all on the big screen.
Enough content for dozens of game nights without repeating yourself.
Works for small family gatherings and larger get-togethers. The more, the funnier!
Player nicknames appear directly in prompts and answer cards. The jokes are about your group too, not just fictional characters.
