The short version

These are the rules for using AppRevolt's games and websites — including Take a Joke. By playing or using them, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. We've kept it plain. If you don't agree, please don't use our games or sites.

These terms cover all AppRevolt products — apprevolt.io, Take a Joke, and any future games we release. We're a small independent developer, and our games are free unless a feature is clearly marked as a purchase.

Who can play

Take a Joke is a family game for players of all ages, and you don't need an account to play. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian is responsible for your use of our games and is agreeing to these terms on your behalf. Younger kids should play with a grown-up nearby.

Playing the game

There's no signup — you join a game with a room code and a nickname. We provide our games "as they are," and we may add, change, pause, or remove features at any time. We're a small team and can't promise the service will always be available, uninterrupted, or free of bugs.

The house rules (your conduct)

When you use our games, please don't:

• Submit content — nicknames, answers, anything — that's illegal, hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, or that infringes someone else's rights.
• Try to break, overload, hack, scrape, reverse-engineer, or abuse the service, or work around its limits or content filters.
• Use our games to harm, harass, deceive, or impersonate anyone.
• Use them for anything illegal.

We run automated filters to keep things family-friendly and we can remove content or block access — but no filter is perfect (see "Content you submit").

Content you submit

You're responsible for the nicknames and answers you type in. By submitting them, you give us permission to display, temporarily store, and process them to run the game — including sending them to the providers that generate the narrator's voice (for example, ElevenLabs for speech and, for the Awards segment, Anthropic to write it). You keep ownership of what you write; you're just letting us use it to make the game work, and we can filter or remove anything that breaks the rules.

Because the games are live and social, you'll see content other players submit in your group. That content is theirs, not ours, and we're not responsible for it.

The AI narrator

Take a Joke's narrator lines and end-game roasts are generated by AI, for entertainment. They're jokes — not real opinions, advice, or statements of fact about anyone — and they can be imperfect or odd. Please don't take them seriously.

Our stuff (intellectual property)

The games, their prompt and answer content, and the AppRevolt and Take a Joke names, logos, and look-and-feel belong to AppRevolt (or our licensors). We give you a personal, limited, revocable license to play for your own enjoyment. Please don't copy, sell, redistribute, or build competing products from our content without our written permission.

Purchases & virtual items

There are no purchases today — Take a Joke is free. If and when we offer something to buy (for example, a bundle of AI "Award Ceremonies"), these rules apply: you'll pay through the platform's billing (App Store, Google Play, or our web payment provider); what you buy is a digital item with no cash value that can't be exchanged for money; items may expire or be revoked if you break these terms; and all sales are final except where a refund is required by law or by the platform's own rules. Prices and offerings can change.

No warranties

We provide AppRevolt's games and sites "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't promise they'll be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or fit for any particular purpose.

Limit of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, AppRevolt won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of our games or content. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the prior 12 months (often nothing, since the game is free) or US $100. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

You cover your own misuse

If your misuse of our games, or the content you submit, leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows.

Suspending or ending access

We can suspend or end your access to our games, or remove content, if you break these terms or to protect the service or other players.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If we make a material change, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above. Continuing to use our games or sites after a change means you accept the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.

Disputes — arbitration & class-action waiver

Please read this carefully — it affects your legal rights, including how disputes are resolved.

Almost any dispute between you and AppRevolt will be resolved by binding individual arbitration rather than in court. You and AppRevolt both give up the right to a judge or jury trial. A neutral arbitrator decides the dispute through a more informal process, and the decision can be enforced in court.

Arbitration is administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules (at adr.org), and the Federal Arbitration Act governs this section. It may be conducted by phone, video, or written submissions, or in person in the U.S. county where you live, as those rules allow.

Class-action waiver: claims may be brought only in your individual capacity — not as a plaintiff or member in any class, consolidated, or representative action. The arbitrator may not combine more than one person's claims or preside over any class or representative proceeding.

Exceptions: either side may still bring an individual claim in small-claims court, and either side may ask a court for an injunction to protect intellectual property or stop abuse of the service.

30-day opt-out: you may opt out of this arbitration agreement within 30 days of first agreeing to these terms (that is, first using our games) by emailing contact@apprevolt.io and saying you opt out. If you opt out — or for any claim a court finds can't be arbitrated — disputes are handled by the state or federal courts located in New York, and you and AppRevolt consent to those courts.
